Two-day DISH 2019 hackathon starts

A total of 19 teams are participating in this year’s DISH to create relevant and sustainable blockchain-based platforms.

Two-day DISH 2019 hackathon starts

The two-day DISH 2019 hackathon started on 6 April 2019 at Acceler8 in 111 Paseo de Roxas, Makati City.


DISH, which is short for Decentralized Innovation Startup Hackathon, is a blockchain hackathon that challenges Manila-based developers to prototype blockchain-based platforms that are relevant and sustainable.


This year’s DISH is the second following the first event held in November 2018 at Acceler8 111 Paseo, and is organized by BlockDevs Asia.


BlockDevs Asia is an organization that shapes blockchain developers who have the potential to be hired by blockchain companies through events like DISH.

The event started with Oost & Voort Inc. CTO Caspar Oostendorp providing an introduction on DISH, which was followed by an explanation on why the hackathon focuses on the use of decentralized technologies such as blockchain technology.


Oostendorp also provided an overview on the blockchain technology, including its use cases and its kinds, and the reason behind the need for the technology, as well as a short guide on how to know which blockchain to use for a project.

This was followed by a breakout session for the different teams participating in DISH 2019 to decide and plan on the project that they will be developing.

These teams are developing blockchain-based solutions for different fields using the event’s supported networks that includes Ethereum, Stellar, and IOST.

TokenNews PH human resources officer Mark Villanueva, Takaaki Yoshikawa from HB Wallet, and AIzen founder Yu Onodera each made presentations regarding their respective blockchain-based products and services.


DISH 2019 criteria


This was followed by Oostendorp presenting the criteria for judging the different blockchain-based projects to be created in DISH 2019 in which he said that that it would focus on the technical, commercial and societal aspects of the projects.


The judges for DISH 2019 were introduced, which included the following:

Out of the 19 participating teams, only 12 teams are going to pitch their blockchain startups tomorrow, 7 April, 3:00 PM at Acceler8 Rockwell, Makati City.


The winning blockchain startup will win 50,000 Philippine pesos (PHP), with other startups having the chance to win best technical, commercial and societal startups, as well as special prizes from TokenNews PH.


DISH 2019 is being held along with the Fintech Forum being held at Acceler8 Rockwell as part of the much larger Inclusive Prosperity Fintech Summit.
